There are many ways we do the good work of the Order, serve the community and enjoy the company of our fellow Hibernians.

SAINT BRIGID OF IRELAND FEAST DAY
 February 1st

​Saint Brigid of Ireland
     St. Brigid’s feast day ( February 1st.) is one of the official holy days of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. She helped form Ireland’s first Christian religious community of women. She established a monastery that became a joint facility for nuns and monks which under St. Brigid’s leadership also became a center of learning and school of arts. Brigid was one of the most remarkable women of her time. Her wisdom and generosity became legend, and people traveled from all over the country to share her wisdom.
 
Symbols of Saint Brigid
To be used at mass
        St. Brigid’s statue: To invoke her blessing on all.

• Three flags: Represent allegiance to our church, country and motherland.
• A candle: Symbol of our faith nurtured in Ireland throughout history and brought to America.
• St. Brigid cross: Symbolic of the deep simple faith of the Irish people. This cross is hung on the doors as protection against fire, storms, epidemics and evil.
• Food basket: Symbol of charity and the willingness to share with our brothers and sisters in faith so that they may have freedom from want.
• Bride’s brat: Ribbon hung outside the door on the St. Brigid’s eve and saved throughout the year as a source of healing power.
• Flowers: Dandelion is known as St. Brigid’s flower because it is a flower of spring and has medicinal value.

St. Brigid Unity Prayer
 Dear St. Brigid,
     We ask your guidance to inspire us to offer Friendship, as you did, to all whom cross our paths in life. We ask your Prayers to inspire us to offer the hand of Unity to all. We ask your Love to inspire us to give Christian Charity to all. We as members of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians seek to follow in your path of Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity. We ask that you bestow Your Blessings upon us through Christ our Lord.     Amen.
