April 3rd | Suffolk County (view flyer) Commemoration Ceremony at the Thomas J Clarke homesite (exit 70 off the Long Island Expressway) followed by Mass and Breakfast at the Rock Hill Country Club. April 10th, 1:00pm | Orange County (view flyer) Community luncheon at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Washingtonville to honor the 100th Anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising with recognition of the brave women involved in this historic event. Mary Hogan, National LAOH President & Regina Begley, LAOH NYS Irish Historian will be guest speakers, focusing on the role of the Irish Women in the 1916 Easter Rising. Mike McCormack, National AOH Historian & author of "The Road to Rebellion" will also be a guest speaker, giving an overview of the events leading up to the Rising. In addition Sophie Colgan, the 2015 NYS Rose of Tralee has agreed to share her personal family story and connection with the 1916 Easter Rising. Also, music, Irish step dancers and vendors. April 22nd, 7:30-10:00pm | Queens 1916 Documentary Screening and Discussion Social hour begins at 7:30 p.m. At 8:15 p.m. screening of the feature-length documentary (80-minutes) at the New York Irish Center, 1040 Jackson Avenue, Queens, NY, followed by a Question and Answer session with the documentary's creator, writer, and producer, Bríona Nic Dhiarmada, the Thomas J. & Kathleen M. O'Donnell Professor of Irish Studies and Concurrent Professor of Film, Television, and Theatre at the University of Notre Dame. This is the Documentary from the Keough Naughton Center. This event is presented in collaboration with Irish Film London. April 23rd, 10:00am | Broome County Memorial Mass will be held at Lourdes Chapel in Binghamton. A Flag raising will follow at Binghamton City Hall. The commemoration will continue at AOH Hall in Binghamton. A Rising Candle will be blessed and lit and will be kept at the Hall as a memorial. A second candle will be lit in memory of Broome County AOH member Bill Ryan's father who was involved in the Rising. There will be a reading of 1916 Proclamation and Resolution; a DVD of the Rising; actual photographs of the Rising (Courtesy of Bill Ryan) will be on display. Also, Irish music, dancing and refreshments. April 23rd, 1:00pm | New York City Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Following Mass, a procession will be held from the Cathedral to the plaza of the Irish Consulate, a few blocks away. At the plaza, a ceremonial reading of the 1916 Proclamation as well as speeches from various dignitaries will take place. There will be NO SEATING at the plaza of the Irish Consulate. Tickets are required to attend these events. LAOH NYS tickets will be issued through NYS Irish Historian Regina Begley. (view flyer) Anyone who is planning to go to NYC on April 23rd and would also like to participate in the Rockland event, accommodations at a local hotel are being arranged and bus transportation to NYC will be available from the hotel. April 24th, 8:00am | Greene County Mass at Our Lady of Knock Shrine in East Durham ending with a reading of the 1916 Easter Rising Proclamation by member of Division 32, Greene Co. We will install a 1916 Easter Rising Exhibition at the entrance of the church in mid-April. Feel free to visit this exhibition when the Church is open.
